Gorilla Baby Boom as Uganda opens borders to International Tourists
The President of Uganda on 20th September 2020 announced the opening of Entebbe International Airport and land borders. This came after a period of six months since tourism was put at a standstill due to COVID-19 pandemic that forced these tough but necessary precautions on everybody. A few days later, on the 25th of September, Hon. Tom Butime, the Minister for Tourism Wildlife and Antiquities officially relaunched primate tourism in Uganda. You can now visit to trek the Mountain Gorillas, Chimpanzee and other wildlife in Uganda!
Truths you may not Know about Matoke
Many people look at motoke as a plant while others see it as merely food. And others still ask what this is all about! In Buganda matoke is much more than a plant and food. It is one of the most cherished aspects of Buganda culture. Matoke were here long before the arrival of European explorers. It is believed that it was in the rein of Kintu, Buganda’s first revolutionary King after the fall of Ttonda dynasty, that Matoke was introduced. Since that time matoke have been a part of the Baganda, for now close to 800 years.

Uganda is indeed a country of many wonders. Many people talk about the natural beauty of this country and never its rich cultural diversity. Recently, I embarked on a journey to the east of the country. A few kilometers from Jinja, I ended up at Bwonda landing site in Mayuge. Got into a speed boat for about 2 hours into lake Victoria. The The expansiveness of the lake with a few islands scattered far between each other, coupled with a bumpy ride, got me both excited and scared at the same time.
Coffee a key stabilizer of polygamous marriages and friendships
Uganda is one of the few places in the world where coffee can grow naturally. As children, we used to go with our parents to the forest to harvest coffee. The trees just grew there naturally. At the time, I always thought that the trees had been given to us by the gods! Later in life, I discovered that coffee is grown in many parts of Uganda and serves varying purposes.
